What most people don’t realize, usually they leave work at work, meaning they aren’t as selfless in their lives, they couldn’t be as they have to have their own needs met at times too. In the therapy room a therapist is always supposed to think of their clients and never say or do anything that does not benefit the client.

The reality is, she is not the same person in her real life, what you see is what she is trained to do which is be a selfless, empathetic therapist. As far as ethical standards, the American Psychological Association states that if certain conditions can be proven it is okay for a therapist to date a former client after two years though many therapist and psychologists disagree and think it is never appropriate. The therapist has to be able to prove there was not an inappropriate relationship during the therapy session, that therapy was not terminated to have a relationship in the future, that during the relationship the therapist is not in a power role and so forth.
